FAQs

WILL MY TAN FADE IF I EXERCISE WITH SELF-TAN ON?

Your tan should stay even and streak-free while exercising, however heavy sweating on a regular basis can result in the tan fading quicker.

ARE FAKE BAKE PRODUCTS SUITABLE FOR THE FACE?

All Fake Bake products can be used on the face. However, being a sensitive area it’s advisable to patch test first. We recommend using Fake Bake’s bespoke product The Face, which is specially formulated for the area.

CAN FAKE BAKE BE USED DURING PREGNANCY?

As it is only the top layer of the skin that’s affected by DHA, self-tan shouldn't have any harmful effects for expectant mums. We do not recommend tanning in the first trimester and we recommend wearing a mask to prevent inhalation when using a spray tan. We do not recommend manual application of tanning in salons due to the massage action, but self-tanning in the home is fine during pregnancy. It can also be helpful to do a skin test before self-tanning, as hormone levels can fluctuate throughout pregnancy affecting the results of your tan.

WILL MY FAKE BAKE TAN TRANSFER ONTO CLOTHING AND BEDDING?

We recommend wearing loose, dark clothing for up to 8 hours while your tan develops. Until washing the excess tan off, please be mindful that the colour may transfer onto items of clothing or bedding. Fake Bake has a quick dry formula and any transfer will be minimal. Fake Bake’s newest product to the market, Tanning Water, is a clear formula so there is no transfer. All ingredients in our products are water soluble and should easily wash out - machine wash as soon as possible to remove any tan.

DO FAKE BAKE TANNING PRODUCTS SMELL?

Our products are pleasantly fragranced smelling of citrus, tropical or linen scents.

CAN I STILL GET A TAN FROM THE SUN WHILE USING FAKE BAKE?

Fake Bake self-tanners do not offer any sun protection. Our products allow you to experience a gorgeous golden glow without the need for harmful sun beds or sunrays.

IS FAKE BAKE TESTED ON ANIMALS?

No Fake Bake products have been tested on animals.

IS FAKE BAKE VEGAN FRIENDLY?

All Fake Bake products and ingredients are vegan friendly.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO PREPARE FOR A FAKE BAKE TAN?

Always exfoliate prior to tanning using one of Fake Bake’s preparation products, such as our Coconut Body Polish. Following exfoliation, remind them to use one of Fake Bake’s oil-free moisturising products on dry areas including elbows, hands, knees and feet, to stop the tan grabbing to these dry areas. Drier areas need to be exfoliated thoroughly and moisturised for an even tan.

HOW CAN I GET A NATURAL LOOKING FINISH ON MY HANDS, KNEES AND FEET?

If you wish, you can put a little bit of Fake Bake’s oil-free mistifier on your hands, feet, elbows and knees. The mistifier will work like a barrier to the tan and by applying to those areas you will find they do not go too dark as the tan will not cling to those areas.

CAN YOU LEAVE FAKE BAKE ON OVERNIGHT?

You can leave your Fake Bake tan on overnight and wash off in the morning for maximum colour.

SHOULD YOU SHAVE OR WAX BEFORE SELF TANNING?

Ensure you’re applying your preferred product at least and 24hrs post shaving or waxing.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU SELF TAN?

It is personal preference and really depends on how your skin and tan are looking. If it has faded considerably or your skin is appearing dry, you may prefer to remove the tan completely and start with a fresh blank canvas. If you choose this option, the best way to remove your tan is with our Tan Eraser. If your skin is cared for, your tan should fade evenly.

I HAVE DRY SKIN AND FAKE TAN DRIES MY SKIN OUT, IS THERE A PRODUCT SUITABLE FOR ME?

Fake Bake recommends Flawless Coconut Tanning Serum and Original Self-Tan Lotion for clients with very dry skin. Always add on a moisturiser for preparation and maintenance such as Fake Bake’s Oil-Free Mistifier.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO TAN MY FEET / HANDS?

Use Fake Bake’s oil-free moisturising products on dry areas including elbows, hands, knees and feet, to stop the tan grabbing to these dry areas. To avoid messy palms, apply some tan to the back of one hand and use the back of the other to blend the product on the back of both hands and in between the fingers. Any mistakes can be rectified by blending one of our moisturisers into the mistake or by using Tan Corrector & Eraser. When applying lotion or liquid to the feet, use light feathery strokes over the foot, between the toes and around the sides to ensure even coverage.
